Piano for Kids

The children between the ages of four and seven probably will need more time with the animals and their word clues before moving on with confidence to standard music notation. This Christmas Carol book is the first of a series of fun music books that will encourage the child to enjoy music and play more often. These are songs most children are familiar with and will receive much pleasure and encouragement when they play the songs for friends and family.

This book introduces one new note, the A (ape) found in the treble clef. This is the teenager of the Ape family. He is in his upstairs room playing a computer game. One new timing note is also introduced. This is the Dotted Quarter. In 4/4 timing it receives 1½ count, one count for the note and a half for the dot. This is a good time to in introduce the principle that a dot after a note, rest or another dot receives half of what is in front of it.
