The Joy of Teaching Piano to Very Young Children
This is such a special time of the year as we share time and memories with those who are most important in our lives. I love teaching the special music written to celebrate the joys of the holidays this time of year. Regardless of the child’s background I have always been able to find some songs that will have special meaning to my students to learn and share with their loved ones It is always easiest for them to play something they are familiar with and it brings such pleasure to them. The smile of a 4 or 5 year olds face when the successfully play “Jolly Old Saint Nicolas” is a true pleasure. Then for them to be able to play it for grandparents and family brings pride and joy to both the child and the parents.
I want to tell you about a little known Christmas book that is available for your advanced students. It has many of the favorite carols written in the style of some of our favorite classical composers. It has been a great study for both me and my students. Our favorite has been “Jingle Bells” written in the style of Scott Joplin. It is really a fun, interesting and entertaining piece to work up and a delight to share. The title of this book is something about Christmas classics in the style of Bach and other composers. You might want to ask about it in your local music store. Finding delightful music like this is among the many joys found in the teaching piano and music education in general.
Hope you are truly enjoying your Holiday Season.
